Hill College Board of Regents October 2021 meeting summary

The Hill College Board of Regents met Wednesday, October 20, 2021, for their regularly scheduled monthly meeting.

Board President David Teel called the meeting to order at 12:12 p.m. Regent Dwight Lloyd gave the invocation.

Minutes from the September 2021 regular meeting were reviewed. Regent Tony Marley moved to approve the minutes and Regent Karen Brackin seconded. The minutes were unanimously approved.

Billy Don Curbo presented the financial report for September 2021. Regent Bill Galiga moved to approve the financial report as given and was seconded by Regent Jennifer Nowlin. The report was approved.  

Dr. Pam Boehm gave the President’s Report:

  • Boehm presented special guest, Bill Schultz of TC3. Mr. Schultz gave an update on the progress of the POISE to Jenzabar ERP conversion. Dr. Boehm recognized the hard work of all of the module managers and I.T. team. Go Live is being conducted this week.
  • Received reaccreditation letter from onsite visit from SACSCOC Chair, Mr. John McIntosh.
  • Hosted the NTCCC virtual Innovation Conference for faculty. Recognized Dean Nancy McKenzie for her work on this conference for the third year. There were approximately 30 participants and 17 members of the Hill College faculty whom attended the virtual event.
  • TACC legislative update. $15 million approved for the TRUE Grant will be disbursed to Higher Education Coordinating Board. Community colleges will have an opportunity to apply for grants for technical education.
  • HC Foundation meeting conducted. Foundation provided $50,000+ in scholarships for Hill County taxing district students this year.
  • Attended Go Hillsboro committee meeting and set up three goals for the year.
  • Hosted Hill County Retired Teachers Association on campus.
  • Held Flu Shot Clinics at HCC and JCC for students, employees, and the public.
  • Attended Burleson Opportunity Fund Breakfast of Champions for scholarships allowing Burleson ISD graduates to attend Hill College on scholarship.
  • Held three Pizza with the President student events district wide.
  • Tour of the Cleburne Technical Center and lunch with the new president of SWAU. Discussed the Mission Advantage Program partnership.
  • Boehm asked VP Jessyca Brown to provide a report regarding the college’s Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) to the board. Accomplishments from year one were shared, as well as plans for year two.

Paul Brown presented the Athletic Report. The new Cross Country team has competed in several events already this fall. Men’s soccer finished the season and women’s soccer is in the playoffs. Region 5 volleyball tournament will be held at the Hill County Campus on November 4-5. Basketball teams are gearing up for November start date. Baseball and softball are completing their fall season. Rodeo has one more fall competition.

Sherry Davis gave the Student Success Initiative report, providing student achievement data.

Brown presented Consideration of Approval of Mission Statement. Regent Lloyd made a motion to accept the annual review with no changes to the statement and was seconded by Regent Nowlin. The motion passed. 

Jamie Jaska presented the recent Hill College personnel hires and resignations. Regent Marley made a motion to accept the recent personnel changes and Regent Brackin seconded. The motion passed.

With no further business to conduct, Regent Brackin made a motion to adjourn, Regent Nowlin seconded. The meeting adjourned at 1:15 p.m.
